Norman Marcus, Chair 

Brett M. Cascio, M.D. 
Dr. Brett Cascio, a Major in the United States Army Reserve Medical Corps, is Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Louisiana State University. He received his undergraduate training at Duke University and his M.D. at LSU. After his orthopaedic residency at Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Cascio completed a fellowship at the Steadman-Hawkins Clinic and has now returned to his native New Orleans. Dr. Cascio has been involved in the application of biomaterials in cartilage for several years, through his work at Johns Hopkins in the lab of Dr. Jennifer Elisseeff.

Mark D. Miller, M.D.
Dr. Miller is a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Head of the Division of Sports Medicine at the University of Virginia.  He is a Distinguished Graduate of the Air Force Academy and the Unifomed Services University of Heatlh Sciences.  Dr. Miller completed his orthopaedic residency at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center and his fellowhip in sports medicine at the University of Pittsburgh.  He served as the Head Team Physician at the United States Air Force Academy and the Head of Sports Medicine and Vice Chairman of Orthopaedic Surgery at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center prior to his move to the University of Virginia.  He has authored over 100 papers and 14 textbooks, including the best-selling Review of Orthopaedics (now in its 5th Edition).  Dr. Miller is an accomplished surgeon, teacher, researcher, and educator.

Kai Mithoefer, M.D.
Dr. Mithoefer is a Clinical Instructor in Orthopedics at Harvard Medical School and Staff Orthopedic Surgeon with Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He received his training in Orthopedic Surgery at Harvard Medical School and completed a fellowship in Orthopedic Sports Medicine at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.  Dr. Mithoefer serves a team physician for the United States Soccer National Teams and Major League Soccer and is an Orthopedic Consultant for World Team Tennis.  He has authored more than 40 articles and book chapters on several aspects of Orthopedic Sports Medicine with a special focus on articular cartilage injury and regeneration in the athletic population.

C. Thomas Vangsness, M.D.
Dr. Tom Vangsness, Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine, is Team Physician for USC as well as many high school teams. A graduate of St. Olaf College, Dr. Vangsness  attended the University of Minnesota School of Medicine.  He completed his orthopaedic training at the Hospital for Joint Diseases in New York, and then went on to do fellowships in both bioengineering and then sports medicine. He is currently Chief of Sports Medicine at the USC Hospitals. Dr. Vangsness is published in many sport medicine related fields, including the use of stem cells to regenerate structures within the knee.
